Guardians of the Galaxy Out on Home Video for Holidays

Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy, like so many big movies these days, is getting a tiered release. You can rent or buy it digitally this month, on November 18, in HD or 3D formats. I’m curious to see it again, to see how it views differently now that I know the surprises … and how successful it was, as the number one movie of 2014.

The home video release comes out in three formats next month, on December 9. There’s a 3-D Blu-ray Combo Pack (with 3-D Blu-ray, regular Blu-ray, and digital copy, $40); a single-disc Blu-ray ($33); and a regular DVD ($30). Disney has moved away from packs with both Blu-ray and DVD, which I liked. Perhaps they figured out that their Blu-ray customers don’t need or want the older format. It also helps promote their Disney Movies Anywhere digital copy service instead of DVDs for access away from the big home TV.

The extras for Guardians of the Galaxy include, depending on format and venue, the following:

  • Deleted scenes
  • Making-of featurettes
  • Exclusive Look at Marvel’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron
  • Gag reel
  • Audio commentary

To tie into this weekend just passed, artist Orlando Arocena created these Mexican-influced images of Star-Lord and Gamora.
