Doctor Who a Prominent Part of Lego Dimensions Video Game

The same way that the Disney Infinity video game allows you to match up characters across properties — including Mickey Mouse, Captain Jack Sparrow, Marvel superheroes including Iron Man, and Star Wars characters — the upcoming Lego Dimensions (out next month) does it for Warner Bros. brands, as well as others. The character families for the game include:

  • The Lego Movie (duh)
  • DC Comics (including Wonder Woman, Cyborg, and Aquaman)
  • The Lord of the Rings
  • The Wizard of Oz
  • Scooby-Doo
  • Back to the Future
  • Lego Ninjago and Chima
  • The Simpsons
  • Ghostbusters
  • Jurassic World

and my favorite, Doctor Who. And everyone’s a Lego minifig! The story begins with base characters Batman, Gandalf, and Wyldstyle. Here’s a trailer showing them in the TARDIS. (Lego Daleks are funny-looking.)

But most excitingly, anytime you play the Doctor, you can choose which incarnation! And when you do, the control room changes to match! (Or, when you lose a life, you come back as the next Doctor in line.) See that here, on this gameplay video:

And here’s Peter Capaldi being introduced to the game, where they show him how to have his character ride the Dalek:

I’m no good at Lego games, but this looks like an awful lot of fun.

Wait – both Back to the Future AND Doctor Who? And DC Comics and Ghostbusters? And Lord of the RIngs and Wizard of Oz? And Scooby-doo?

I don’t know if I should even consider buying this. It’s like someone read my mind and said “here’s a game with almost everything you like in one place – would you like to give us ALL OF YOUR MONEY NOW?” If I buy this I may end up bankrupt.

(But how can I not buy a game that would let me team up the Doctor with Marty McFly? Or have Scooby-doo and Dorothy team up against Darkseid? I held off buying Disney Infinity despite my desire to see Elsa and Rapunzel fight Doctor Doom – I don’t think my willpower can hold this off…)

  • I know! It’s like crazy fan dream! I may end up just buying the characters instead of the whole game. Cause minifigs are adorable.

Will this be available on IPad ap I wonder? I’m not buying a game system to buy one game, but this looks fun.
