Wizard World Chicago This Weekend

Wizard World Comic Con Chicago is this coming weekend — only it’s longer than that now. I hadn’t realized that they’d expanded the show to include 5 hours on Thursday as well as all-day Friday through Sunday. Their website is showing that four-day passes are sold out, but one-day tickets are still available (ranging from $40-60, depending on day), as are most of the upgraded VIP packages.

Programming has been announced, with the highlight on Q&A sessions with the various media guests, including Jeremy Renner, Burt Reynolds, Stephen Amell, Milo Ventimiglia, Bruce Campbell, Billie Piper and Arthur Darvill, various wrestlers, and Caroll Spinney, better known as Big Bird.

If you just can’t wait, there’s a paid “Kick Off the Con” party tomorrow, Wednesday, August 19, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at Level 257 at the Woodfield Mall. Tickets are $20 if you buy early, or $30 if you want to include round-trip transportation to and from the con hotel. Special guest celebrities expected to attend include Michael Rooker, Milo Ventimiglia, and Barry Bostwick.

I’ll only be able to go to the show Saturday this year — if you’re going, let me know what you’re looking forward to seeing!

I can only go on Thursday. I was looking forward to walking around Artists’ Alley, because I enjoy seeing the self-published and small press comics that creators have for sale, but I injured my foot recently, so I probably won’t be doing a lot of walking.

At Wizard World Fan Fest this Spring, there was an open board gaming area with an extensive game library. If they have that again, I will probably spend the majority of my time there.

Also, I’d like to meet Simon Bisley. I don’t really care for his art now, but I loved it as a teenager.

I’m not really into meeting the movie/ TV/ wrestling stars, which is good, since most of them won’t be there on Thursday.

Did you go? If so, what did you think?

  • Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to make it. I stayed home and wrote reviews instead. :)
