Iron Giant Returns to Theaters With New Footage

The Iron Giant: Signature Edition

The 1999 animated classic The Iron Giant, directed by Brad Bird and with Vin Diesel as the robot, will be back in theaters on September 30 and October 4. Warner Bros. has dubbed this the “Signature Edition”, and they’ve remastered the film and added two all-new scenes.

The Iron Giant: Signature Edition

This was Bird’s first film, before The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and this year’s Tomorrowland. The screenplay for The Iron Giant was written by Tim McCanlies based on the book by Ted Hughes. Jennifer Aniston and Harry Connick Jr. also contributed voices, with Eli Marienthal as the young boy who befriends an alien robot and tries to protect him from government agents during an era (1957) full of paranoia. It’s very touching and makes many people cry. Particularly with its understanding of heroism, as symbolized by Superman.

After this showing, Warner has announced, the film will be available for digital purchase in high-definition. No word of a media (Blu-ray) release. See more at the movie website.
