Dark Horse Brings Single Issues to ComiXology, More Digital Distributors

Earlier this year, Dark Horse announced that their graphic novels would be available on ComiXology, finally giving the digital distributor access to all the major comic book publishers. Now, the rest of the Dark Horse titles join the party, as Dark Horse has now announced that they will make their monthly single issues available on five new platforms with same-day releases: Apple’s iBookstore, Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble’s NOOK, Google Play, and Comixology. (Now that ComiXology is part of Amazon, most every ComiXology announcement includes Kindle availability as well.)

Dark Horse President and Publisher Mike Richardson stated, “Our growing relationship with our digital-publishing partners expands the choices for our readers to choose the platform and format they like best.” They’re now calling themselves “the most widely distributed comics publisher digitally.”

Mark Bernardi, Dark Horse Director of Digital Publishing, was quoted as saying, “Now, along with the Dark Horse Digital website and apps, there will be several other places for fans to get their digital comics the same day that print versions hit stores.” Which seems to imply that Dark Horse isn’t shutting down its own digital distribution site yet.

Dark Horse is not listed on ComiXology’s DRM-Free Backups page, so it doesn’t appear that downloadable PDFs will be available.
