Oni Press Reissues Wet Moon: Feeble Wanderings

Wet Moon: Feeble Wanderings New Edition

Wet Moon is a series of graphic novels by Sophie Campbell about a group of art students in a Southern town. The first volume, Feeble Wanderings, debuted in 2005, with the most recent sixth book appearing in 2012. (A seventh volume has been delayed but is still planned.)

Now that Campbell has gained new attention for her work on the Jem and the Holograms, Oni has announced that they will be re-releasing the first volume in a new edition. The new cover, designed by Annie Mok, is shown here.

Oni describes Wet Moon as

An unusually usual day-to-day story in the Deep South, set in the gothic, swampy southern town of Wet Moon, a place fraught with lousy love lives, teen angst, and shadowy rednecks.

I admit, I gave up on the series because I wanted more to happen in it, but that’s not the point of this story. Instead, it’s about mood and mystery and visions of women, particularly those with piercings. This is a town where everyone has something to hide, and I wanted the revelations to come faster, but life isn’t like that. Instead, the characters spend a lot of time talking about meaningless concerns, as people do. I did enjoy Campbell’s visual portrayal of a wide variety of young women and the sense of place she establishes.

The book also contains six pages of character images and “the first five pages of what was originally supposed to be Wet Moon volume 1″ set during Cleo’s senior year of high school. The new edition of Wet Moon: Feeble Wanderings can be preordered from your local comic shop (for another day or two) with Diamond code DEC15 1484. The cover price is $19.99, and it’s due out at the end of April.
