Torchwood Comic Joins Doctor Who Line

Titan Comics has announced that, in addition to their ever-expanding Doctor Who comic line, they will be publishing a Torchwood comic that will be “in continuity with the new hit Torchwood audio dramas from Big Finish”.

The story is promised to feature Captain Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper (as played by Eve Myles). (Is anyone else from the team left? I haven’t watched the last two or so installments.) Most excitingly for dedicated fans, the actor who played Captain Jack, John Barrowman, will be co-writing with Carole E. Barrowman. Artists include Antonio Fuso and Pasquale Qualano. The ongoing series launches on July 6, with issues priced at $3.99. Here’s the first issue description:

Captain Jack Harkness is back in Cardiff, and there’s only one person he can turn to — the last person who expected to see him, Gwen Cooper! A dark technology from a forgotten species has been claimed by a conspiratorial power… and in this collision between an ancient civilization and an all-new evil, the Earth itself may be forfeit! Only Jack, Gwen, and their allies from what remains of Torchwood hold the key to stopping a cataclysmic wave of destruction… On the road, on the run, and under fire — can the pair put aside their differences and rebuild the heart of Torchwood, before its flame is stamped out forever?!

One of my favorite parts of the Doctor Who comics are the new companions they’ve created, particularly the unusual women. I hope Torchwood adds some similarly interesting new characters. (And refrains from killing them off!)

Typical of these releases, there are a handful of variant covers to choose from:
