After I just talked about how I liked issue #23 comes the news that the Jem and the Holograms comic series will be ending in April with issue #26.

Issues #24-26, written by series writer Kelly Thompson and illustrated by Gisele Lagace, make up the “Truly Outrageous” arc. The final issue is planned to include 24 story pages plus “lots of extras”, making it an oversized 40 pages total.

Thompson was promising that this wouldn’t be the end, though. She was quoted as saying, “Jem and the Holograms is not over, not by a long shot. In fact, I’d say the most exciting thing we’ve ever done is in our very near future. I can’t say what it is yet, but look for it this summer. It’s not hyperbole to say it’s going to change everything about the Jem universe!”

Beyond the promotion, she also put out a nice thank-you: “I find myself very thankful to all the fans for such an amazing and successful run as well as grateful and awed by all the incredible artists I got to work with along the way.”

This has been a surprisingly good series, particularly for being based on a licensed property. Nothing great lasts forever (especially in the comic market, which is constantly looking for new and relaunched), and better to end while still running well. I look forward to seeing what the summer brings.
