Robotech #1 Coming in July

Robotech #1 cover by Michael Dialynas

I’m not a Robotech fan — in our house, it was that thing my brother wanted to watch to keep me from seeing the classic sitcoms I preferred — but I can’t deny that it was the first, best-known anime most Americans were exposed to. Titan Comics, a leading publisher of adaptations and licensed comics, will be releasing a Robotech comic series later this summer that promises to use the classic characters.

The first issue drops July 26, written by Brian Wood and illustrated by Marco Turini. The publisher is promising “a thrilling new tale that’s perfectly accessible to new fans, as well as providing a deeper layer of twists for old-school protoculture addicts!” The original Robotech had a sprawling storyline about humans fighting off invading aliens. I can see where, given today’s nostalgia market and love of manga-influenced soap operas, this could be a big hit.

Typical of today’s comic market-focused launches, there will be seven variant covers — the six shown here, plus a blue line Veritech sketch variant.
