Warner Bros. Animation has announced that the DC Super Hero Girls, the branding program with toys, dolls, and books featuring younger, cuter, more covered versions of DC female heroes, will have a movie released in August. DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year is due out August 23 on DVD with an earlier Digital HD availability date of August 9. Like the other products, this direct-to-video movie is aimed at girls 6-12. The teen characters attend Super Hero High, […]

Captain America: Civil War Reflections

I had a fun time seeing Captain America: Civil War. The two and a half hours flew by, although when I left, I wasn’t as thrilled and excited as I have been after seeing other Marvel superhero movies. I think we’ve all become jaded and spoiled. A film like this — one that is really an Avengers movie, with so many superheroes battling each other under questionable premises — would have been amazing if released a few years ago, but […]

Warner Bros. Revamps Studio Tour to Promote Their Recent Movies

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood (is there another one?) has announced they are adding a “new interactive experience” called “DC Universe: The Exhibit”, which seems to restrict the DCU to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the upcoming Suicide Squad movie. The new exhibit will open May 24 and feature “Harley Quinn’s original Belle Reve prison cell”, as well as additional props and costumes from Suicide Squad and costumes and Batcave props from BvS. Much attention is paid […]

Deadpool DVD Release Date Announced

I am mentioning this only because I a bit surprised at how many different people saw and really enjoyed this movie. Deadpool, rated R, will be on Blu-ray and DVD on May 10, and my comic reading club wants to hold a release party. Normally, we talk about graphic memoir and women-focused adventure titles (Saga and Bitch Planet are big favorites), but those who haven’t seen this yet (like me) are intrigued, and those who have seen it want to […]

Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League: Cosmic Clash

The premise of Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League: Cosmic Clash is one many comic and superhero fans are familiar with. Brainiac is shrinking planets for his collection, and his latest target is Earth. In order to get rid of the Justice League, who are in his way, he sends the members to other time periods. This “split the team up and give them separate challenges” is classic Silver Age Justice League plotting. Combined with the amount of humor […]

Ant-Man DVD Date Announced

The more I think about Ant-Man, the more I like it. It’s been treated as a poor cousin of the Marvel movie universe, not tying into the big Avengers franchise, but that gives it the ability to operate on its own as a more stand-alone “man finds his destiny through gaining powers and learning to help others” film. And the cast was talented — Paul Rudd as the lovable loser, former thief Scott Lang; Michael Douglas as the jaded scientist […]

Avengers: Age of Ultron

We’re living in an age of gluttony when it comes to great live-action superhero projects, so I feel a bit spoiled in saying that I wasn’t terribly excited to rewatch Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, now available on home video. While the idea of a combined, over-arching Marvel universe was exciting and astounding when it came to the original Avengers movie, now, it feels like a driving force that made this film less than it could have been. Between introducing […]
