Supergirl: The Complete Second Season

Big changes took place between Supergirl‘s first season (which aired on CBS) and the second one. With the move to the CW network came some cast changes, a new set for the DEO organization scenes, and a new direction for several of the characters. (The studio, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, provided me with a free review copy of this season set. My opinions below are mine.) Gone are evil mogul Maxwell Lord (Peter Facinelli), love rival Lucy Lane (Jenna Dewan […]

Lucifer: The Complete Second Season

In Lucifer: The Complete Second Season, Lucifer (Tom Ellis) and his brother Amenadiel (who’s concerned about losing his powers; played by D.B. Woodside) are looking for their mother (Tricia Helfer), who has escaped from Hell. Lucifer is trying to be honest with Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German) about who and what he really is, but Amenadiel doesn’t want her to know. Plus, her ex-husband (Kevin Alejandro) is back on the force but demoted after last season’s events, so she’s now […]

Gotham: The Complete Third Season

Review by KC Carlson Gotham is one of those shows that I think I appreciate watching on disc more than watching on live TV. I got so annoyed with the long breaks on the “live” TV” schedule last season. (Only three new episodes aired between the end of November and the end of April.) Is it any wonder I forgot what was going on — especially since I was watching all those other DC shows on other networks that were […]

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: The Complete Second Season

Review by KC Carlson DC’s Legends of Tomorrow was my favorite DC show last season by a wide margin. I lost interest in Arrow halfway through its first season and never went back (except for crossover episodes). I’m not sure what happened with The Flash, but both Johanna and I apparently got bored with it about mid-season, and next thing we knew there were 11-some episodes on the DVR. (We are looking forward to catching up with the season set, […]

Riverdale: The Complete First Season

I was harsh on Riverdale when it started, but the series grew on me as it continued. (Thanks to the CW for making it easy to watch through their various apps.) Now, for an evening in with a glass of wine, binging a few episodes at a time, it’s an enjoyable teen soap opera guilty pleasure. Riverdale: The Complete First Season releases next Tuesday, August 15. (The studio, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, provided me with a free review copy of […]

Powerless Also Laughless

I got a chance to watch the first two episodes of Powerless, the NBC workplace comedy set in the DC universe. Unfortunately, the superheroes are used only as set dressing, and the comedy isn’t funny. It’s the story of Emily (Vanessa Hudgens, High School Musical), new girl in the big city, who’s been hired to manage an R&D department for Wayne Security. Her employees include Teddy (Danny Pudi, Community), Ron (Ron Funches, Undateable), and Wendy (Jennie Pierson, Don’t Trust the […]

The Problems With Riverdale

Now that I’ve watched the first episode of Riverdale, the dark-and-moody teen-focused Archie comic adaptation, I had some thoughts on issues with the show. KJ Apa looks too old. Press says he’s just 19, but he looks mid-20s, a man, not a teenager. They play this off with comments about how Archie “got hot” doing manual labor on a summer job, but visually, he doesn’t fit in with the other “high schoolers”. As of yet, he also doesn’t have the […]

Immortal Guys Solving Crimes

I have recently realized that I enjoy a rather specialized television sub-genre: immortal guys and normal women solving crimes. Examples: Lucifer season 2 has just returned, with the prince of hell trying to figure out his feelings for the police detective he works with. In this most recent episode, “Stewardess Interruptus”, the two murder victims are former lovers of Lucifer, a nice device to complicate things. I recently binged the only season of Moonlight, a vampire PI series starring that […]
