Sherlock Returns to Major US Streaming Service

The best-known Sherlock Holmes to many folks these days was played by Benedict Cumberbatch in the BBC series. It ran 2010-2017 and consisted of 13 episodes (including the historical special The Abominable Bride). There’s even a comic adaptation! However, the series hasn’t been easy to find lately. Of course, there are always the physical discs to purchase (or maybe check out from your library). But the show left Netflix back in 2021. It’s been available on BritBox since then, but […]

Sherlock and the Sea Devils

This article originally appeared in Sherlock Holmes magazine issue #13, Summer 23. The final episode of Sherlock, the third of season 4, was not received positively. (Well, final so far. Hope springs eternal in some hearts, with show creators still being asked “will there be a Sherlock season 5?”) Many fans were dismayed by what happened in the episode, to the extent of pretending the show ended with season 3 (or even season 2, but that’s another topic). I’m not […]

BBC Sherlock Gets New Licensed Product

I am a huge fan of both Sherlock Holmes and the BBC Sherlock TV series. (Those two things don’t always go together.) As a fan of the latter, I have, of course, wondered if the show was really done. It’s been 12 years since it debuted, five years since the final episode of season 4 (the last so far) aired. Both Benedict Cumberbatch, who starred as Sherlock Holmes, and Mark Gatiss, co-creator, writer, and Mycroft Holmes actor, have recently been […]

The Batman Complete Series on Blu-ray Today

The Batman was a cartoon show that ran five seasons from 2004-2008, first on Kids’ WB, then the Cartoon Network. I’m talking about it like an encyclopedia because I’ve never seen it. (I’d quit watching cartoons for a while at that point in my life.) Now comes an easy way to remedy that. The Batman: The Complete Series is out today on Blu-ray (plus digital copies). All 65 episodes are accompanied by several extras. The premise of the series was […]

America’s Greatest Otaku Found

Some amazing person has uploaded the episodes of America’s Greatest Otaku to the Internet Archive. This reality show was what Stu Levy did as an attempt to pivot Tokyopop from print to a “manga-lifestyle entertainment” company. It was filmed in 2010, aired in 2011, shortly before Levy, company founder, shut down the publishing side of the company. The publisher has since returned, albeit with plenty of people side-eyeing them. Anyway, enjoy a little slice of time capsule stupidity.

Superman: The Complete Animated Series Out on Blu-Ray

KC reviewed Superman: The Complete Animated Series when it came out on DVD in 2009. The studio was kind enough to send us a copy of the new release, Superman: The Complete Animated Series on Blu-ray with digital copy. It comes out on Tuesday for the show’s 25th anniversary — the show debuted in September 2009. It’s been remastered, and I’m just going to quote the press release here for the details: All 54 episodes have been remastered from the […]

Superman & Lois Blu-ray Set Has Extra Footage

I wasn’t going to mention this, as the show wasn’t for me, but there was one particular item in the press release that intrigued me. (I preferred the idea of the old Lois and Clark, couple flirting and working together and fighting crime, over parental and teen drama.) Superman & Lois: The Complete First Season arrives on October 19 (same day as the complete Smallville). There are 15 episodes on three discs for suggested retail price of $29.98 ($39.99 in […]

Smallville: Complete Series Coming to Blu-ray

This might be the excuse I need to finally sit down and watch Smallville. It seemed cheesy at the time, but now that many of the current superhero TV shows have turned dark, it might be fun to see a younger version of Superman (played by Tom Welling). I seem to remember liking Kristin Kreuk as Lana Lang and Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor, too. To celebrate the show’s 20th anniversary — and my, how time flies — Warner Bros. […]
