It’s been 20 years since Batman & Mr. Freeze: Sub-Zero came out on DVD. It’s a 67-minute tie-in movie to Batman: The Animated Series and has the same voice cast: Kevin Conroy as Batman and Michael Ansara as Mr. Freeze. Other cast members include Loren Lester (Robin/Dick Grayson), Efrem Zimbalist Jr. (Alfred), Robert Costanzo (Detective Harvey Bullock), Robert Hastings (Commissioner Gordon), Marilu Henner (Veronica Vreeland), Mari Devon (Summer Gleeson), and Liane Schirmer (Lt. Time Warner had FilmStruck (launched 2016), an arthouse movie streaming service focusing on indie and foreign films. Now, they just have FilmStruck, with the classic movies moving over to the first service, including such well-known titles as Casablanca, Rebel Without a Cause, Singin’ in the Rain, Citizen Kane, The Music Man, Bringing Up Baby, The Thin Man, and Cat People. iZombie Season 3 Announced for Blu-ray and DVD

iZombie is a lot of fun, with some great performances, and I’m glad to hear there are already plans for a fourth season. In the meantime, all 13 episodes of season 3 will be available on DVD and Blu-ray (via the Warner Archive, as with Lucifer) on October 3 as iZombie: The Complete Third Season. Rose McIver plays Liv Moore, a medical examiner who uses her unique state to solve crimes in partnership with police detective Clive Babineaux (Malcolm Goodwin) […]

Riverdale on DVD, Blu-ray on August 15

After complaining about Riverdale early on, I have to admit that the show grew on me. It helped that I quit thinking about it as an Archie comic adaptation and instead approached it as a CW “angsty teen drama“. It made for fun popcorn viewing, particularly as we settled into the characters and how extreme they could be. It was the CW’s top new show this year, so maybe other people felt the same way. In case you missed it […]

Lucifer Season 2 Comes to DVD, Blu-ray in Split Release

I know a lot of people giggle at the premise — she’s a cop, he’s the Devil, they solve crimes in LA — but Lucifer, starring Tom Ellis, is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. This past season, season 2, increased the family dynamics by adding in his mother, played by Tricia Helfer, to complicate his relationship with Detective Chloe (Lauren German), his angel brother Amenadiel (DB Woodside), his demon friend Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt), and his therapist Dr. Linda (Rachael […]

Static Shock: The Complete First Season

While I liked Icon better (because of the lead female character), the Milestone comic Static, launched in 1993, was more fun. The title character, a teen with electrical powers, was a modern take on Spider-Man. Virgil Hawkins was a kid given amazing abilities, struggling with how to use them well while juggling family and school responsibilities. The first issues were written by Robert L. Washington III and Dwayne McDuffie and penciled by John Paul Leon. I never watched the cartoon […]
