Young Justice on Blu-ray

I was given a chance to check out the release of Young Justice on Blu-ray from the Warner Archive. I hadn’t gotten into the show the first few times I tried it, but I wanted to give it another shot, for two reasons. I knew it got better later, and sometimes, knowing exactly how a series played out — in this case, that there was no finale, just cancellation, after only two seasons — can set expectations more appropriately. There […]

Young Justice on Blu-ray From Warner Archive

The first season of Young Justice, 26 episodes on two Blu-ray discs, will be available from Warner Archive next week, on August 12. No extras, it appears, but fans of the show (which only ran two seasons) might appreciate having the full season instead of on four separate DVD volumes. (I’ve talked about the first three: Volume 1, Volume 2, Volume 3.) I wasn’t a fan because I wanted to see more female heroes sooner, and I wasn’t thrilled with […]

Batman: The Brave and the Bold Season One on Blu-ray

Warner Archive has just released its first Blu-ray animation package, and it’s Batman: The Brave and the Bold Season One. I’m thrilled, since this gave me a wonderful excuse to rewatch my favorite superhero cartoon. The set has all 26 episodes of the first season on two Blu-ray discs. KC’s already reviewed the show, when it was released on DVD in two sets — here’s Season One, Part One and Season One, Part Two — so I’m just going to […]

Batman: The Brave and the Bold Coming to Blu-ray Through Warner Archive

Coming in November, Warner Archive will be releasing Batman: The Brave and the Bold, my favorite superhero cartoon, on Blu-ray. The first collection will include the 26 episodes of season one, previously released on two DVD volumes. This is Warner Archive’s first animated Blu-ray release. Batman: The Brave and the Bold was a wonderful, fun treatment of superheroics with plenty of guest stars and creative storylines. It’s truly entertaining for all ages. Warner will be announcing more details on a […]

Warner Archive Releases Crosby Wonder Woman Pilot, Superboy Season 2

Warner Archive continues its trend of finding the most wonderful and amazing discoveries, movies and TV shows you didn’t know you wanted but once you hear about them sound terrific. Before the Lynda Carter Wonder Woman TV show took off, they tried a 1974 pilot starring Cathy Lee Crosby. It’s more similar to the white-suit, superspy version of Diana Prince than the star-spangled warrior we’re more familiar with. As it’s described, “with a sleek, seventies espionage superaction refit… Ricardo Montalban […]

Born to Be Bad Comes to DVD With Alternate Ending

The Warner Archive continues its impressive release schedule by releasing Born to Be Bad, a 1950 Nicholas Ray film about a naughty girl wrecking homes and destroying lives. As the site describes it, Joan Fontaine plays Christabel Caine, the anti-heroine who has the face of an angel and the heart of a savage. King of Noir Robert Ryan plays the rough-hewn writer who is good enough to share her bed, but not her hand, while Zachary Scott plays the aviator […]

Last of Sheila Back in Print From Warner Archive

It’s such a cliche to say “they just don’t make them like that any more”, but with The Last of Sheila, they didn’t make them like that then, either. That’s what makes this mystery puzzle film such a gem. Now, the DVD is back in print from Warner Archive, and bless them for doing so. When I went looking for a copy last year, it was regularly going for $40-80, but now, it’s yours for under $20. I recommend the […]

Forbidden Hollywood Volume 4: Jewel Robbery, Lawyer Man, Man Wanted, They Call It Sin

I’ve been looking forward to the relaunched Forbidden Hollywood line — now coming from the Warner Archive — for months now, and the actual product does not disappoint. These are 1932 movies, so they’re scratchy, at times, both visually and on the soundtrack, but oh, what fun they are! And how wonderful to watch 80-year-old movies so easily! Forbidden Hollywood Volume 4 consists of four discs, one per movie, in a single case. Each film is just over an hour […]
