OniPress.Com to Run Serialized Comics in 2013

Oni Press announced a major overhaul of their website OniPress.com beginning in January 2013. They will be adding “a full-fledged content hub with comic updates five days a week.” Said editor in chief James Lucas Jones,

“We love comics and we want to share that love with as many people as possible. The web is the perfect tool to help us deliver great comics to a global audience.”

The five serials will consist of two new stories and three reprints “pulled from the publisher’s 15 years’ worth of backlist material.” (And congrats to Oni on that track record!) Since the publisher is calling the new series “graphic novels”, I’m assuming that they’ll appear in print after their online serialization.

One of the new comics comes from two of my favorite creators. A Boy & A Girl is by Jamie S. Rich (12 Reasons Why I Love Her) and Natalie Nourigat (Between Gears). In a future world with life-like androids, Travis is trying to hunt down Charley and ask her for a date. He doesn’t know, though, that it’s her last night in town.

The other new series is Buzz by Ananth Panagariya (Johnny Wander) and Tessa Stone. It’s about a high school student competing in spelling bees. That’s one of those weird but compulsive settings that could make for great comics.
