Jacques Tardi’s graphic novel series The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec had a live-action movie adaptation that came out in France two years ago. The film was directed and produced by Luc Besson (The Fifth Element) and starred Louise Bourgoin.

Set in 1913, reporter Adele sails to Egypt to handle mummies and deals with the outcome of the hatching of a pterodactyl egg from a museum in Paris.

For those hoping we’d get a chance to see this movie, Shout! Factory has just announced they have obtained the US rights to both this film and the CG-animated musical A Monster in Paris by Bibo Bergeron. The deal includes “home entertainment, digital distribution and broadcast for cross-platform releases. Shout! Factory plans a strategic rollout of these films on all packaged media, electronic-sell-through (EST), video-on-demand (VOD), subscription video-on-demand (SVOD), and television.” An early 2013 date has been set for A Monster in Paris, but no date was announced for Adele Blanc-Sec.
