ComiqueCon a Comic Con for Women

ComiqueCon

ComiqueCon is taking place next month. It’s a one-day gathering on Saturday, November 7, at the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. Organizers describe the show, appearing for the first time, as “a one-day celebration of the amazing work of female comic creators” where they want to explore “the growing impact of women readers of comics and graphic novels… in an effort to celebrate and promote diversity among readers of those two mediums.”

Featured guests include Nancy A. Collins, Alex De Campi, Mairghread Scott, and Marguerite Sauvage. Tickets are $10 for the day. They’re planning to show She Makes Comics, which would be worth it in itself.

I’ll be interested to hear how this goes. I know of the work a number of attendees, and there’s a great lineup of guests and exhibitors, but unfortunately, it’s a bit too far from me for a weekend trip. This festival would have been something I would have loved to have seen last decade, but now, with so many women making great comics and being recognized at more general comic shows, I’m not sure the focus is still needed the way it once was.
