Lucifer Season 1 Out Later This Month

Lucifer Season 1

If you’re like me and you enjoy watching Lucifer, you’ll want to know that the first season will be available on DVD and Blu-ray on August 23. Even if you haven’t tried it yet, you should check it out as a fun twist on the lightly supernatural procedural.

Although the premise is the same as the Vertigo comic — a bored Lucifer leaves Hell and starts running a nightclub in Los Angeles, accompanied by his demonic assistant, who tends bar — the approach is very different. The series was more dramatic and symbolic and a tad horrific. But as portrayed on TV by Tom Ellis, this Prince of Hades is charming and playful and at the beginning, somewhat superficial, which allows for some development over the season. He learns more about his own motivations as he makes a true friend (and visits a psychiatrist, like everyone else in LA).

The first season had the following 13 episodes:

  1. Pilot
  2. Lucifer, Stay. Good Devil.
  3. The Would-Be Prince of Darkness
  4. Manly Whatnots
  5. Sweet Kicks
  6. Favorite Son
  7. Wingman
  8. Et Tu, Doctor?
  9. A Priest Walks Into a Bar
  10. Pops
  11. St. Lucifer
  12. #TeamLucifer
  13. Take Me Back To Hell

I hadn’t realized that Lucifer was the #3 scripted series on FOX with Households and Total Viewers. No wonder it’s been renewed!

As with iZombie, the Blu-ray is being released by Warner Archive, which makes it available through Amazon or other online retailers, not in stores. Both DVD and Blu-ray have the same extras, which include:

  • the 2015 Comic-Con Panel
  • Character profiles of Amenadiel, Linda, Chloe Decker, and Dan
  • Deleted scenes
  • Gag Reel
  • Lucifer Morningstar (I assume a featurette)
  • Devilish Duo (ditto)
