Good Books to Order for February 2017

The latest Diamond Previews catalog lists a lot of books worth checking out. Here are a few of them, along with others I had something to say about. You can order them now through your local comic shop for delivery in February or later.

The Fuse: Constant Orbital Revolutions Fire!!: The Zora Neale Hurston Story
The Fuse: Constant Orbital Revolutions
Image Comics, $14.99, DEC16 0799, due out February 8
The fourth (and final for a while) Fuse collection reprints issues #19-24, a tale of fighting terrorism that also provides the answer to why Ralph came to the space station. It’s a tightly plotted procedural with great character work in a science fiction setting, and I’ll miss the series.
Fire!!: The Zora Neale Hurston Story
Drawn & Quarterly, $21.95, DEC16 1625, due out March 1
I enjoyed Peter Bagge’s biography of Margaret Sanger, Woman Rebel (reoffered as DEC16 1633) so much I’m looking forward to another of his life stories of a key 20th century woman.
Science Comics: Bats: Learning to Fly Decelerate Blue
Science Comics: Bats: Learning to Fly
First Second, $12.99, DEC16 1695, due out March 1
The impressive educational comic line continues with a thorough explanation of the different types of flying mammals. Find out more in my review.
Decelerate Blue
First Second, $17.99, DEC16 1692, due out February 15
Neat theme and concept, for this science fiction graphic novel about a speed-addicted society, but I thought the story was too familiar.
The Time Museum A Treasury of XX Century Murder Compendium
The Time Museum
First Second, $14.99, DEC16 1697, due out February 22
I loved this science fiction adventure! Recommended for all ages to inspire imagination.
A Treasury of XX Century Murder Compendium
NBM, $27.99, DEC16 1798, due out February 22
A bargain-priced omnibus of three of Rick Geary’s historical true-crime tales: Madison Square Tragedy (one of his very best), The Terrible Axe-Man of New Orleans, and The Lindbergh Child (the first of his 20th century series). Note that NBM ships to comic stores before bookstores, so this will be in the comic market a week before Amazon. Also reoffered is A Treasury of Victorian Murder Compendium II (DEC16 1799, $29.99), set earlier in history but with similar morbid fascination for the reader.
Nightlights Small Favors: The Definitive Girly Porno Collection
Nightlights
Nobrow Press, $18.95, DEC16 1806, due out February 22
A gorgeous comic about creativity and artistic drive that I found enjoyably puzzling and inspiring.
Small Favors: The Definitive Girly Porno Collection
Limerence Press, $29.99, DEC16 1824, due out April 26
I previously wrote about how much I was anticipating this wonderful, sexy, playful porn comic by Colleen Coover to come back into print. It’s fun and erotic.
