Lumberjanes Expands to Young Adult Novels

The popular Boom! comic series Lumberjanes, about a mixed group of young women at a camp that tends to attract supernatural and mythological creatures, is going to be books!
According to Publishers Weekly, Amulet Books, the children’s imprint of Abrams (they publish the super-popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid series), “will launch an original, illustrated middle-grade fiction Lumberjanes series based on the comics”.
The first novel of four planned is due in October, and it will be written by Mariko Tamaki (This One Summer, Supergirl: Being Super). Brooke Allen, one of the original artists on the comic series, will provide black-and-white illustrations. The book is expected to be quite popular, with an anticipated first printing of 150,000 copies. Here’s the description:
In the series opener, when the challenge-loving April leads the girls on a hike up the tallest mountain they’ve ever seen, things don’t go quite as planned. For one thing, the mountain might not be a mountain. Also, unicorns.
This may not be the only book type we see, as the later Boom! press release says “other formats that dive deeper into the world of Lumberjanes are also planned.”
