Wizard World Cancels 2 Shows But Promises Additions to Come

Two weeks prior to the show, Wizard World has announced that the Albuquerque (New Mexico) convention scheduled for July 14-16 has been cancelled. Tickets and other purchases (autographs and picture opportunities) will be automatically refunded.

Also cancelled is the Orlando show planned for August 11-13, but they’re calling that one rescheduled, to some time to be announced in 2018. They are also refunding that one for now.

The company had planned for 16 shows this year. They’re now down to 14, but they’ve announced the coming “addition of several new shows in September, October, and November (dates, cities and venues to be announced).” They’re aiming for “20 or more” events total in 2017, but with half the year gone, plans better come together quickly. It’s a bit odd to see such a non-specific announcement, but “Wizard World expects to finalize plans in each new market and announce the full revised slate in July.”

This will apparently be a temporary setback, since “Wizard World is preparing its announcement of a schedule for 2018 that will almost double its current roster of shows.” I don’t know if that means 32 (double the original 16) or 40 (double the 20 something), but that’s a lot of shows either way. Specific details for upcoming shows are available at their website.
