Anya’s Ghost Movie Coming From Director of Dirty Grandpa

Anya's Ghost

As reported by Deadline, the supernatural coming-of-age graphic novel Anya’s Ghost is planned to become a movie.

Dan Mazer (director of Dirty Grandpa and one of the writers of Bruno) will direct from a script by Patrick Ness (A Monster Calls, the Doctor Who spinoff Class). Production is scheduled to being later this year.

Anya's Ghost

Anya’s Ghost is about a young woman who thinks she’s found a friendly ghost but comes to realize that the spirit’s motivations may be suspect. As she learns to make her own decisions, she takes important steps towards becoming her own person. The graphic novel by Vera Brosgol won the 2012 Eisner Award for Best Publication for Young Adults.

Although I wouldn’t have thought someone best known for raunchy comedy would be the best choice to direct this material, his vision is apparently “to make a classic high school comedy with a supernatural twist”, which doesn’t sound too bad. A lot will depend on casting, of course.
