How Many Flaming Birds Do You Want to See? Marvel Variant Covers in December

Avengers #674 by Brent Shoonover

When all else fails, bring back a beloved “no, really, they’re dead for real and always” character. Marvel, as part of its Legacy initiative to beg for those old fans who still have the habit of dropping too much money at the comic shop weekly to come back, is putting out Phoenix Resurrection: The Return of Jean Grey at the end of December, a “new epic featuring the return of adult Jean Grey”. (She’s been dead for a decade, which is FORever in comic terms. Teen Jean Grey is currently running around the Marvel universe as part of a time-offset original X-Men group. The best part of their presence is young Iceman’s presence driving old Bobby Drake to come out.)

To promote this five-issue miniseries, 21 other comics will have Phoenix variant covers in December. Look for lots and lots of flaming yellow wings at the end of the year. In addition to the images shown here, these other comics will also have Phoenix variants.
