Batman: The Brave and the Bold Returns in Scooby-Doo Movie

Scooby-Doo! & Batman: The Brave and the Bold

I really liked the version of the Batman we saw in Batman: The Brave and the Bold. He was strong and courageous and could be scary, but only in keeping with his mission for justice. And everyone involved with that cartoon had a sense of humor about it, whether it was satirizing what the Batman franchise had become in “Mitefall!” or doing musical episodes.

So I’m glad to see that he hasn’t been forgotten, as Warner has announced that a new movie, Scooby-Doo and Batman: The Brave and the Bold will be coming on DVD January 9, 2018. Here’s the trailer:

Scooby-Doo! & Batman: The Brave and the Bold

Batman (and Detective Chimp) welcome the Scooby gang to the Mystery Analysts of Gotham. We also see Black Canary, the Martian Manhunter, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Clayface, Aquaman (a favorite of the show), the Question, and Plastic Man. And Scooby gets to drive the Mystery Machine!

Voices will be done by the expected cast members:

  • Diedrich Bader – Batman
  • Frank Welker – Scooby-Doo and Fred
  • Grey Griffin – Daphne and Black Canary
  • Matthew Lillard – Shaggy
  • Kate Micucci – Velma
  • John DiMaggio – Aquaman
  • Tom Kenny – Penguin and Plastic Man

The movie will be available on DVD (list price $19.98) and digital on the same day.

This team-up follows show history, as back when the Scooby-Doo series was doing all kinds of guest appearances, Batman and Robin stopped by in a pair of The New Scooby-Doo Movies. You can get those episodes on DVD as Scooby-Doo! Meets Batman. The Warner Bros. Home Entertainment press release points out that this was 45 (!) years ago, but back then, reruns ran forever.
