Sabrina Show Moves From CW to Netflix

Ah, Netflix. What would we do without your apparently bottomless pile of cash to save TV shows and pilots?
A couple of months ago, the CW was looking to make The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, a horror-based take on the Sabrina the Teenage Witch concept from Archie Comics (source of the increasingly popular Riverdale TV adaptation). Now comes word that the CW has passed, but Netflix has so much faith in the concept that they have ordered two seasons of ten episodes each to be produced.
Title of the show, release date, and the cast, including the all-important lead, is still to be determined. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is writing, directing, and producing. Netflix has been streaming Riverdale, so they likely know who’s watching the show and the potential audience for this one.

My impression when I read it was that the decision was likely based on the proposed content. Sabrina is pretty challenging stuff and if they stay even in the general vicinity of the comic, that would be WAY to much for the CW.

You’re likely correct. The recent Sabrina comic, also written by Aguirre-Sacasa, has had some distinctly R-rated content.
