Now maybe I will understand all the gem-related fan art I see on Twitter! Steven Universe, created by Rebecca Sugar, is about a little boy who lives with three magical aliens, the Crystal Gems — Pearl, Garnet, and Amethyst. Steven’s mother was Rose Quartz, who left him her gem. There have been five seasons so far since the show debuted on Cartoon Network in 2013, and finally, the first season is coming to DVD.

The four-disc set of Steven Universe: The Complete First Season is due out on January 30, 2018 at a list price of $24.98. It will contain 52 11-minute episodes, listed here.

Steven Universe: The Complete First Season DVD

Plus, there are bonus features:

  • Inside the Music Featurette
  • Animatics
  • Song Demos
  • Commentaries
  • Exclusive Live Performance

This is elaborated on as “a never-before-seen intimate conversation with series creator … Rebecca Sugar, discussing the show’s celebrated music, chart-topping soundtracks, performance videos, and footage from the Steven Universe Soundtrack Volume 1 listening party.”

Steven Universe is “Cartoon Network’s most engaged property on social media”, which is likely why they believe this is worth bringing out on disc, when few properties get complete releases like this in our age of increasing streaming.
