DC Can’t Let Go of Cities Being More Important Than Characters

Word of another DC TV show exclusive to the coming DC digital subscription service has just broken. In addition to the live-action Titans and the animated Harley Quinn show and Young Justice season 3, in 2019, the service will air a 13-episode season of the live-action Metropolis. Yes, in the tradition of Gotham (which has four seasons under its belt, so nothing to sneeze at) and the upcoming Krypton, the city gets star billing. Because that way you don’t have […]

Titan’s Doctor Who Comics Going on Hiatus

Looking at the last few Previews catalogs, in the Titan Comics section, I found it interesting to note that there were fewer Doctor Who comic issues offered. In December, we could order The Tenth Doctor Year Three #14 (DEC171835, which is labeled the end of that run and is due out at the end of February) or The Twelfth Doctor Year Three #13 (DEC171838, which is also labeled a conclusion and due out March 7). In January’s catalog, there are […]

SP Baby Volume 2

What an unfortunate time to be publishing a series with so much “humor” dependent on sexual harassment and treating women as property. Thankfully, the series is over with this volume. I didn’t think it was possible, but our “lead”, Tamaki, becomes even more of an object in SP Baby volume 2. Her crush and neighbor faces off with her boss while she’s sick, basically handing her off while she blushes and dithers. Her boss, called master, continues to grab and […]

Suicide Squad Gets Another Movie — in the DCU Animated Universe

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced the next original animated DC universe movie. Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay will be available on April 10 on Blu-ray Combo Pack, 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack, and DVD with an earlier digital release on March 27. The Suicide Squad have previously been animated in Batman: Assault on Arkham, but that was set in the videogame universe and had a different voice cast. This won’t be your typical cartoon, as Warner warns “Suicide […]

Lady and the Tramp Gets Signature Edition

Lady and the Tramp is coming back to Blu-ray at the end of next month as a Walt Disney Signature Collection Edition, and they’ve managed to come up with some new extra features for it. The 1955 animated movie was Disney’s 15th, the story of a pampered cocker spaniel and a street-savvy mongrel dog falling in love. It was previously released as part of the Diamond Edition line in 2012 and as a 50th anniversary DVD Platinum Edition in 2006. […]

Diary of a Douchebag

If you’re interested in comics that show you what it might be like to live a different kind of life, you should check out Nico Harriman’s Diary of a Douchebag (available on ComiXology). It’s the story of a frat guy. Willie is the type of character that gets a lot of denigration lately, blamed for all kinds of regressive, abusive attitudes. And here, he deserves it, but by letting us see what happens to Willie in comparison to how he […]

Red Winter

I’m too young to appreciate the revolution in cinema of the late 60s and 70s, where realism became a virtue and independent, sometimes messy viewpoints were given almost as much reach as glossy, professional presentations. But that’s what I was reminded of with this interior graphic novel from Sweden. Anneli Furmark’s Red Winter is set during the late seventies, and it’s the story of a woman having an affair with a young activist, whose politics are called into question by […]

Limerence Press Explains Gender-Neutral Pronouns in Upcoming Release

I love educational comics, particularly when they’re on topics I want or need to know more about. They’re so much more fun to read than plain text. So I’m eager to see a creative take on gender-neutral language. Limerence Press, Oni Press’ imprint for erotic and sex education comics, has announced A Quick & Easy Guide to They/Them Pronouns by Archie Bongiovanni and co-writer Tristan Jimerson. Here’s the description: Archie, a snarky genderqueer artist, is tired of people not understanding […]
