Sabrina Cast for Netflix Show

It was announced last month that Netflix was taking over the Riverdale spinoff from the CW. It’s intended to be a more horror-based take on the Sabrina the Teenage Witch concept. Now comes important news — they’ve cast the lead, and it’s a great choice.

Kiernan Shipka — best-known as the daughter on Mad Men — will star as “Sabrina Spellman … described as an empowered young woman, half-human, half-witch who is just beginning her dark education as a sorceress, even as she tries to maintain a normal life as a sophomore at Baxter High.” The show will be

a dark coming-of-age tale that traffics in horror, the occult, and witchcraft… in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist and finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal while fighting the evil forces that threaten her, her family, and the daylight world humans inhabit.

There are already plans to have two seasons of ten episodes each. Pretty different from the previous take with Melissa Joan Hart!
