Two New Doctor Who Comics Announced for Seventh, Thirteenth Doctors

The Thirteenth Doctor, played by Jodie Whittaker, will be appearing in the new Doctor Who series (Series 11) much later this year. And she’s getting a comic series as well. Titan Comics has announced “the Thirteenth Doctor will be debuting in comics this fall… alongside premiering in the Doctor Who season”.

The ongoing series Doctor Who: The Thirteenth Doctor will be written by Jody Houser (Faith) with art by Rachael Stott (Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor). I’m looking forward to a new beginning, in conjunction with showrunner Chris Chibnall taking over the show. It’s interesting to note that, for the first female Doctor, the publisher has selected women as creators. This also helps answer the question of “what’s going on with Titan’s Doctor Who comics?”

Also exciting to see is a new Doctor Who comic miniseries starring one of my favorite past Doctors. Coming in June (and available to order from comic shops in April) is Doctor Who: The Seventh Doctor, a three-issue series centered on the Doctor as played by Sylvester McCoy, accompanied by the very cool companion Ace (Sophie Aldred). She’s the one who took out a Dalek with a baseball bat!

The comic will be written by Andrew Cartmel, who was a script editor and showrunner for McCoy’s era of the show (1987-1989) and Ben Aaronovitch and illustrated by Christopher Jones (Doctor Who: The Third Doctor). In this comic, there are

An unknown alien intelligence in orbit around the Earth. Astronauts under attack. A terrifying, mysterious landing in the Australian interior. The future of the world itself at stake. Counter Measures activated.

As well as a back-up strip written by Twelfth Doctor scribe Richard Dinnick, with art by Jessica Martin. Typical of the Doctor Who comics, the #1 issue will have four variant covers, as shown here.
