I Kill Giants Movie Has Release Date

I Kill Giants

I Kill Giants was an award-winning comic, collected in 2009, written by Joe Kelly (Action Comics, Deadpool), and illustrated by J.M. Ken Niimura. Now, it’s a movie, written by Kelly and directed by Anders Walter.

The poster and trailer suggest fantasy adventure, but there’s an undercurrent (particularly to those who’ve read the book) that escapism is called that for a reason, that there’s usually something to escape from. Is Barbara really fighting giants?

With comics, and now, thanks to CGI, movies, we can show what people think they’re seeing, which makes for the impressive visuals. Here’s the plot description:

Teen Barbara Thorson (Madison Wolfe) is the only thing that stands between terrible giants and the destruction of her small town. But as she boldly confronts her fears in increasingly dangerous ways, her new school counselor (Zoe Saldana) leads her to question everything she’s always believed to be true. I Kill Giants is an intense, touching story about trust, courage, and love from the producers that brought you Harry Potter.

I hope potential viewers aren’t misled by that last mention, since this is a different kind of fantasy. If you want to know how, here’s a spoiler-filled writeup.

I Kill Giants will be available in theaters and on demand / digital on March 23, 2018.
