New Random House Graphic Novel Imprint for Kids & Teens Led by Gina Gagliano

Random House Graphic

Congratulations to Gina Gagliano, who has been a fabulous marketing and publicity director at First Second! She’s going to lead a new graphic novel imprint, part of Random House Children’s Books, as Publishing Director. This is a big switch, since Gina has been with First Second since their launch in 2005, and well-deserved recognition for all she’s done for comics.

Random House Graphic will launch in fall 2019 “with titles for children and teenagers and a combination of literary and commercial works” and a dedicated team for promotion, advocacy, and outreach. This market is a hot one in publishing, as can be seen by DC Comics doing something similar. Random House Children’s Books, the largest English-language children’s trade book publisher, already puts out graphic novels, including Lucy & Andy Neanderthal by Jeffrey Brown, Babymouse by Jennifer L. Holm and Matthew Holm, and 5 Worlds by Mark Siegel and Alexis Siegel, and illustrated by Xanthe Bouma, Matt Rockefeller, and Boya Sun. Putting them in their own imprint should allow for more focus from publisher and customers.

“From awards to bestsellers, graphic novels have been advancing from success to success over the past decade. It’s the perfect time to take the next step forward with a kids comics imprint at Random House,” says Gagliano. “I’m excited to be part of building a brighter future for the medium — one where there are comics for every reader, in every home, on everyone’s bookshelves — with Random House Graphic.”
