Rocky and Bullwinkle Return

The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle

Available starting today on Amazon Prime Video are The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle, 13 new episodes inspired by the classic early-60s show from Jay Ward Productions. Now it’s

a serialized comedy about two goofball best friends who routinely find themselves thrust into harrowing situations but end up saving the day time and again. As Rocky and Bullwinkle’s innocent and silly ambitions to become rock stars or find lost treasure end up dovetailing with Fearless Leader’s sinister plans to take over the world, our heroes are set on a collision course with notorious super spies Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale.

Tara Strong takes over voicing Rocky the Flying Squirrel, originally beautifully done by June Foray, while Brad Norman is Bullwinkle (previously Bill Scott) and Daran Norris narrates (previously William Conrad).

Here’s a trailer:

I liked the retro-influenced art, and I thought the voices were reminiscent enough of the originals, but I suspect it may be hard to capture the unique blend of humor of the original. I’ll need to watch actual episodes to see for myself, but two underwear jokes in the trailer were too many for me. Suspect kids will love it, though. Bullwinkle’s silly innocence is universally humorous.

Here are a couple more clips. The vomit jokes in the second may confirm my suspicion that I’m not the audience for this.
