Warner Announces a Bunch of Superhero Show DVD Sets

DC's Legends of Tomorrow: The Complete Third Season

Since season finales are airing, it’s time to get those complete season DVD sets announced so viewers can plan to catch up, binge, or rewatch before the September debuts of the new seasons and shows. Warner has announced the following releases of their superhero quartet of series. (Black Lightning was announced last month.) In order of release:

Arrow: The Complete Sixth Season

Arrow: The Complete Sixth Season

Arrow: The Complete Sixth Season will be out August 14. The granddaddy of the pack as the CW’s longest-running superhero show, this season has 23 one-hour episodes available on DVD (list price $44.98) or Blu-ray ($49.99 with digital copy). Arrow is the #3 series on the CW among adults 18-34 (after The Flash and Black Lightning). Here’s the description:

Following the devastating explosion on Lian Yu, Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) returns home to confront a challenge unlike any he’s ever faced: fatherhood. Oliver is determined to embrace this new role while continuing to serve and protect Star City as both Mayor and the Green Arrow. But enemies past and present, including Black Siren (Katie Cassidy), Vigilante (Johann Urb), Ricardo Diaz (Kirk Acevedo), Cayden James (Michael Emerson), threaten him on all fronts. And bonds within the ranks of Team Arrow — veteran John Diggle (David Ramsey); tech genius Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards); former police captain Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne); and brilliant inventor Curtis Holt (Echo Kellum), plus newest team members Rene Ramirez/Wild Dog (Rick Gonzalez) and metahuman Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy) — have become dangerously decayed. The future of Star City is at stake in all 23 of Season Six’s ferociously fast-paced, can’t-miss episodes.

They have changed the policy, compared to previous seasons, and the Blu-ray version of this set will include all four crossover episodes, a nice bonus. Additional special features include

  • The Best of DC TV’s Comic-Con Panels San Diego 2017
  • The Split of a Man: Deathstroke
  • Inside the Crossover: Crisis on Earth-X
  • Revenge in Ones and Zeros: The Story of Cayden James

The Flash: The Complete Fourth Season

The Flash: The Complete Fourth Season

The Flash: The Complete Fourth Season is scheduled for August 28. The 23 one-hour episodes will be available on DVD (list price $49.99) or Blu-ray ($54.97 with digital copy and all four crossover episodes). (No idea why it’s $5 more expensive than Arrow.) Here’s the description:

In Season Four, the mission of Barry Allen, aka the Flash (Grant Gustin), is once more to protect Central City from metahuman threats. First, he’ll have to escape the Speed Force. With Barry trapped, the job of protecting Central City falls to his family — Detective Joe West (Jesse L. Martin); his fiancée, Iris West (Candice Patton); and Wally West/Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale) — and the team at S.T.A.R. Labs — Dr. Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker), Cisco Ramon/Vibe (Carlos Valdes), and brilliant scientist Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh). When a powerful villain threatens to level the city if the Flash doesn’t appear, Cisco risks everything to break Barry out of the Speed Force. But this is only the first move of a life-or-death chess game with Clifford DeVoe aka The Thinker (Neil Sandilands), a mastermind who’s always ten steps ahead of Barry, no matter how fast he’s running.

Special features include:

  • The Best of DC TV’s Comic-Con Panels San Diego 2017
  • Inside the Crossover: Crisis on Earth-X
  • The Elongated Man
  • Flash Time on Amunet Black with Katee, Eric and Sterling
  • The Fastest Mind Alive: The Thinker

I don’t know how this happened, but since I have 10 episodes piled up on my DVR, this seems like a better way to catch up.

Supergirl: The Complete Third Season

Supergirl: The Complete Third Season

Supergirl: The Complete Third Season will be out September 18. The 23 one-hour episodes will be available on DVD (list price $44.98) or Blu-ray ($49.99 with digital copy and all four crossover episodes). Here’s the description:

In Season Three, Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) grapples with the sacrifices she’s made personally while saving National City as Supergirl. She even considers covering up her human identity altogether. Being human and vulnerable is hard. Maybe she’s better off embracing her alien DNA and only being the “Girl of Steel”. As Kara struggles with her path forward, she continues to work with Hank Henshaw (David Harewood) and her sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), at the Department of Extranormal Operations to battle all threats to National City, including new villains Morgan Edge (Adrian Pasdar) and the “Worldkiller”, known as Reign (Odette Annable). Everything Kara’s ever known and everyone she’s ever loved will be tested in all 23 supercharged Supergirl adventures.

Special features include:

  • The Best of DC TV’s Comic-Con Panels San Diego 2017
  • Inside the Crossover: Crisis on Earth-X
  • She Will Reign!
  • Deleted scenes
  • Gag reel

DC's Legends of Tomorrow: The Complete Third Season

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: The Complete Third Season

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: The Complete Third Season (my favorite!) lands September 25. The 18 one-hour episodes will be available on DVD (list price $29.98) or Blu-ray ($39.99 with digital copy and all four crossover episodes). This show is #3 on the CW among total viewers, which means more older people (like me) watch it. (I think we like humor better than angsty drama. Or maybe that’s just me.) Here’s the description:

After defeating the Legion of Doom, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow face a new threat created by their actions. By revisiting a moment in time that they had already participated in, they’ve essentially fractured the timeline and created anachronisms all across time! In Season Three, the Legends must find a way to return all the anachronisms to their original timelines before the time stream falls apart.

The third season of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow stars Victor Garber, Brandon Routh, Caity Lotz, Franz Drameh, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Tala Ashe, and Keiynan Lonsdale, with Nick Zano and Dominic Purcell.

Special features include:

  • The Best of DC TV’s Comic-Con Panels San Diego 2017
  • Inside the Crossover: Crisis on Earth-X
  • Post Production Theater
  • Gag reel
