I am surprised this is coming up so quickly! The Small Press Expo is next weekend in Bethesda, Maryland. Here are key things you need to know:

The show runs from 11-7 on Saturday, September 15, and noon-6 on Sunday, September 16, with additional events before and after. That includes the Ignatz Awards Saturday night; here is the list of outstanding nominees.

During the day, there are two programming tracks featuring many of the special guests. I’m honored to be moderating a panel on Sunday. “Look Back and Laugh” is about youth and autobiography.

Our renowned panelists Dash Shaw (New School), Kat Fajardo (Gringa!), Carta Monir (Secure Connect) and Nate Powell (Come Again) have all created beautiful books about the trials and triumphs of youth. Here with moderator Johanna Draper Carlson, they discuss what goes into making a book that’s meant to capture the authenticity of an era you only see in hindsight.

There are almost 200 books debuting at the show, if you want to get your shopping list together.

The biggest complication right now with the show is that Hurricane Florence is expected to hit the Carolinas and Virginia on Thursday, with states of emergency already declared and heavy rain predicted through the weekend. I’m waiting to hear if my flight into the area is still going to happen.

Update: And I will not be going to the show after all, due to the weather and flood forecasts. I hope those of you who are able to make it have a good time in spite of nature!
