Marvel Digital Originals Are Hard to Keep Track Of

Various publishers have smartly created digital comics to tie into popular movies or video games. In addition to providing obvious starting points (sometimes a huge problem for superheroes with decades of history and multiple titles), they also mean a better chance of getting a hit when someone is randomly typing in a search online. The problem with these comics is that they can’t really change anything or do anything significant with the character. They’re not “real” in the eyes of […]

A Visual History of Captain Marvel’s Costumes

I’m a bit late posting this, since the movie came out almost two months ago, but it’s always fun to see how a long-lasting character’s outfits have changed over the years, particularly since this is a case where the Captain Marvel movie costume doesn’t quite match any of the comic book ones. (That’s more likely with female characters, of course, since their costumes quite often ignore practicality until it’s time to put it on a real-life woman.) Image Created by […]

Marvel Promotes Creators But Forgets to Name Them

It’s always a great thing when a corporate comic company remembers that its works are built on the effort of talented creators. So I was impressed to see Marvel announce that they would “celebrate some of the most influential comic creators in Marvel history with a line of Marvel’s Greatest Creators True Believers comics”. (“True Believers” being their name for their $1 comic line of introductory books, emphasizing the cultish nature of their fandom.) The big problem here is that […]

Avengers Cast Has Some Singing Fun

It’s not like the sure-to-make-a-billion-dollars superhero movie opening this coming weekend needs any promotional help at this point, but after re-watching Captain America: Civil War last night, it was nice to see these Avengers actors goofing off. The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon rewrote Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire” to cover Marvel superheroes and had some of the cast of Avengers: Endgame sing it. Here it is: (Now that I found the source, I realized the guy in […]

Justice League vs. The Fatal Five

I had high hopes for the newest DC original animated movie, Justice League vs. The Fatal Five. It has two of my favorite DC things: the Legion of Super-Heroes and Jessica Cruz, Green Lantern. Plus, it had an intriguing theme, that of mental health and struggling with invisible illness. (The studio provided a review copy. In addition to the physical media release, the movie can be seen on the DC Universe streaming service. Since they sell access to the digital […]

Angel Returns in a Surprise Release

Boom! Studios, trying to make the most of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer license, released the first issue of an Angel series. Only they did it in unusual fashion. They announced Angel #0 on April 9 for release April 17 as the beginning of a new monthly series. Since most comics in the direct market system are solicited at least two months before release, this one-week turnaround is pretty amazing. Stores are getting copies equal to their orders for Buffy […]

Scotch: A Golden Dream

Scotch: A Golden Dream is an hour-and-a-half documentary about the making of Scotch whisky and its many traditions. With views of green pastures, amber liquid, and Scottish activities and outfits, it opens in a relaxing mood and continues in the same style, building layers of knowledge revolving around one particular master of the drink. Finished a couple of years ago, the movie will be available on demand on May 7. (Since I previously watched Neat: The Story of Bourbon, I’m […]

Lucifer Debuts on Netflix Next Month

So excited that Lucifer got a fourth season! It’s one of my favorite TV shows for goofy fun without too much involvement. Sometimes you just want to be entertained, you know? Here’s a teaser that plays up one of the appealing factors: star Tom Ellis is attractive. We also learn that Eve (Inbar Lavi), as in the original woman, will be a new character, and there’s a nice thank you to the fans. https://twitter.com/LuciferNetflix/status/1114195996802723848 This wordless Netflix teaser takes a […]
