Deb Aoki, Brigid Alverson, Erica Friedman, Heidi MacDonald, and I Talk Manga

I have been remiss in not linking to this before now. In the time frame of what would have been the New York Comic Con in mid-October, Deb Aoki, Brigid Alverson, Erica Friedman, Heidi MacDonald, and I did a livestream where we talked about manga for over an hour. It was a lot of fun! Deb, Brigid, and Erica read a lot more in that format than I do these days, and I got some good suggestions of titles to try.

If you enjoy this kind of discussion and programming, subscribe to the Comics Beat YouTube channel. Heidi does a great job getting us together talking about things like this. And if you have a topic suggestion, let me know!

Great panel, just now getting to watch this. I loved the My Life as a Villainess one of panelists talked about, it was so sweet and seeing the characters develop and grow together was really impressive.

I’m surprisingly really enjoying the light novels, especially the Rascal Doesn’t Dream of…. series from Yen Press which has improved up the animated series of same name that I fell in love with.

One series I recently discovered that I like, is Raise ga Tanin ga Ii from Kodansha. A daughter of a mafia leader has alway had trouble finding someone to love, since people are scared of her and her family. Her grandfather eventually arranges for her to be engaged to the son of a mafia family in another area, and she agrees to go there but he isn’t what he seems. So either they will wind up killing each other, falling in love or both. The art is beautiful and story has been a lot of fun.

Hope y’all cover more manga soon!

  • Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for sharing your recommendations!
