Sherlock: A Scandal in Belgravia

Making note here that I’m glad that Titan Comics is continuing its translation of the manga adaptations of the Sherlock series. They’re currently in the middle of the first episode of season 2, “A Scandal in Belgravia”, with issue #4 (of 6) coming out at the beginning of March. This is the episode where we meet Irene Adler. (The three previous are now available in collected form as Sherlock: A Study in Pink, Sherlock: The Blind Banker, and Sherlock: The […]

Kate Leth Celebrates an Important Anniversary

Kate Leth has posted to her Patreon a comic called “Dry Spell: A Year Without Drinking”. In addition to her self-character bat being adorable, she brings forward some important points about why this was the right decision for her. I think many of us can relate to this panel, in particular: But there are a bunch more ways to deal with those things than alcohol, if that’s not what you want to do. Bravo to her!

Melanie Gillman’s Desert Diary

Melanie Gillman (As the Crow Flies, Stage Dreams) is currently publishing their experience at a wilderness artist residency in a series of diary pages at TCJ.com. Gillman is known for their colored pencil work, and the soft shades work well with the sparse desert landscape. The first page was May 20, and they will run for 10 days. You can follow new pages at the site’s author page. My favorite so far is the one with the dog:

A Visual History of Captain Marvel’s Costumes

I’m a bit late posting this, since the movie came out almost two months ago, but it’s always fun to see how a long-lasting character’s outfits have changed over the years, particularly since this is a case where the Captain Marvel movie costume doesn’t quite match any of the comic book ones. (That’s more likely with female characters, of course, since their costumes quite often ignore practicality until it’s time to put it on a real-life woman.) Image Created by […]

Does This Look Like a God to You?

I’m glad to see a woman writing Wonder Woman, given that this is the time where the character should be getting more attention. In my opinion, G. Willow Wilson (Ms. Marvel) is taking some time to find her feet, but the current storyline, pitting Veronica Cale against the Amazon Princess, shows promise. Cale, created by Greg Rucka to be Wonder Woman’s “Lex Luthor”, is a high-powered executive whose daughter was kidnapped by gods in order to blackmail her. She’s a […]

Unnatural Art Focuses on Breasts

I previously panned Unnatural by Mirka Andolfo for letting its tendency for salacious images get in the way of the story. I flipped through the most recent issue, #7, and discovered little had changed. The pig-girl is now the long-lost fated savior, or something, and there’s a rebel group telling her what to do (because she has little direction on her own). However, her powers take her over during a raid and she rips a guy’s arm off. This scares […]

Lumberjanes: The Infernal Compass the First OGN for Series

Recently released is Lumberjanes: The Infernal Compass, the first original graphic novel for the franchise (which has already expanded from comics to original prose novels). It’s written by Lilah Sturges and illustrated by polterink with a cover by Alexa Sharpe. The premise is that the five scouts learn about orienteering from their guide, Jen. April quickly gets separated from the group. There’s a mystical compass, steampunk robot butlers, character development — Molly is insecure about her relationship with Mal — […]
