Scooby-Doo Team-Up #44 Preview: Dastardly and Muttley!

Out today is the latest installment of one of the comics I most enjoy reading these days: Scooby-Doo Team-Up. Issue #44 puts the characters in contact with a Hanna-Barbera favorite: fiendish Dick Dastardly and his oddly human-like snickering dog Muttley. They starred in a 1969 cartoon, Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines, which spun out of Wacky Races. You probably know it best from the theme song, “Stop the Pigeon“. DC has provided the following preview pages from the […]

Doctor Who: Thirteenth Doctor Comic Will Have 13 Covers (Duh)

Titan Comics is excited by the new Doctor Who, played by Jodie Whittaker. They’re launching a new series, Doctor Who: The Thirteenth Doctor, which will debut with a #1 on November 7. It’s written by Jody Houser and illustrated by Rachael Stott. No plot information is available — before the new Doctor’s show debuts, I would imagine the BBC would be cross with that — but we know that she’ll be accompanied by her TV companions: Graham (Bradley Walsh), Yasmin […]

Bravo! Oni Press has created Draw Out the Vote, “a free state-by-state comics voting guide”. Age of Bronze Reissued in Color

When it came out last decade, Eric Shanower’s Age of Bronze was a masterwork. Retelling the Trojan War humanized it and brought the history to life, and his gorgeously detailed art was a pleasure to read. On Wednesday, the first collection, A Thousand Ships, will be reissued in color, done by colorist John Dallaire, which should expose the story to a new audience. You can see some of this beautiful work in the selection of preview pages below.

Beasts of Burden: Wise Dogs and Eldritch Men Preview Pages

I’m late running this, but the art is so lovely I don’t think it matters that Beasts of Burden: Wise Dogs and Eldritch Men #1 came out two weeks ago. Written by Evan Dorkin and illustrated by Benjamin Dewey, the four-issue miniseries continues the Eisner-winning series about dogs that fight magical creatures. Here are the two covers as well as five preview pages. Dewey does a terrific job capturing realistic dogs while giving them the expressiveness they need for the […]

See Kittens Decide to Run a Construction Company in These Preview Pages

Out next week is Kitten Construction Company: Meet the House Kittens, the first in a charming new series by John Patrick Green. It’s exactly what it sounds like: little cats want to build houses, but no one takes them seriously. The publisher has provided these preview pages to give you an idea of just how adorable the whole thing is. And the format aims to “bridge the gap between picture book and chapter book for kids 5-8.” You can get […]

Not Just Good Art, But Neat Web Presentation

The New Yorker has an online article about a little-known painting by Charles Addams featuring his famous Addams Family characters at the beach. It’s a nifty little discovery, and I always enjoy seeing more of his work. (The Addams characters first appeared in The New Yorker, by the way, in 1938.) What’s neat, beyond seeing a cartoon-ish seasonal piece of art, is how the site presents the painting. The second half of the article analyzes the layout and some of […]
