Batman: Dark Knight Returns Parts 1 and 2 Now Available in Single Package With New Extras

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment today released the Deluxe Edition of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (an original animated movie previously available as Part 1 (released September 2012) and Part 2 (January of this year)). As you’d expect, to tempt viewers into double-dipping, there’s more than just a “seamless combination” of the previously two-part animated film. There are also new bonus features: “a 70-minute Frank Miller retrospective, an all-new filmmaker commentary, [and] four exclusive collector cards with never-before-seen artwork”. You’ll also […]

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox

I’m not sure what to say about an animated superhero film that starts with the Serenity Prayer followed by the murder of Barry Allen’s mother (Grey DeLisle). There’s an early establishment of the theme, “if only I’d run a little faster”, as Barry’s driving force, unhelpful as it is. (There’s no point in anyone’s life dwelling on “if only”.) Aside from the quick, awkward emotional beats that start Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, there’s plenty of action. In the first […]

Nathan Fillion on Playing Green Lantern in Flashpoint Paradox, Being Fannish

One of the neat things about the release of Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox was getting to see the Electronic Press Kit clips Warner sent out. For instance, here’s a set of Nathan Fillion talking about fandom. In this one, he compares his three times voicing Green Lantern. (Prior to this, he played the character in Green Lantern: Emerald Knights (where he talked about the character’s appeal) and Justice League: Doom (where he also provided an interview about the role).) Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox Video Clips, Premiere Today

Now that we’re a little more than a week away from the release of Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (on July 30), video clips have been made available. First, there’s the trailer, explaining the premise of the Flash-centered story: Next, Cyborg (Michael B. Jordan) introduces his allies to Batman (Kevin McKidd; the character wisecracks a lot for someone with glowy red eyes) and explains the situation: The movie premieres at the San Diego Comic-Con tonight at 7:30, with appearances by […]

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox Due July 30

The next original DC animated movie will be Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, released on July 30 and now available for order. It’s based on the story in which the Flash wakes up in an alternate universe without his powers. Here’s the description: When time travel allows a past wrong to be righted for Flash and his family, the event’s temporal ripples prove disastrous, creating a fractured, alternate reality where the Justice League never formed, and even Superman is nowhere […]

Superman: Unbound

If, like Greg Rucka, you’re concerned about a Superman who’s not suitable for kids, you’ll want to stay away from this new original animated movie. Superman: Unbound is only an hour fifteen minutes, but within the first eight, it’s well lived up to its PG-13 rating (for “sequences of violence and action, and a rude gesture“). They get right to it in the credits, as Brainiac has his eyeball ripped out on camera by a robotic tentacle. As the film […]

Superman: Unbound Extras, Voices, and Images

We have some new images from Superman: Unbound, starring Matt Bomer (Superman), Molly Quinn (Supergirl), and Stana Katic (Lois Lane). I like how expressive the characters look. Newly announced voices include Frances Conroy as Ma Kent, Wade Williams as Perry White, Diedrich Bader as Steve Lombard, and Stephen Root as Zor-El. I think I’m going to have a hard time with Jimmy James as Supergirl’s dad — I kid! Root is quite talented and I’m sure will voice the character […]

Trailer Released for Superman: Unbound, Next DC Animated Movie

Superman: Unbound, the next original DC animated movie, is due out later this year (and was promoted on the just-out Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 2). The trailer is now available, showing Supergirl’s fear of Brainiac based on what he did to her home planet. Brief thoughts: Matthew Bomer has a nice authority as Superman, and Molly Quinn does a good job as the tortured Supergirl. Superman’s odd neck was distracting to me. Overall, looks like a big fight, […]
