DC Super Hero Girls: Intergalactic Games

DC Super Hero Girls: Intergalactic Games is the second animated feature (after Hero of the Year) starring the toy line, and it’s better than the first. I’ve already posted the trailer, but this was even more fun than I expected. That’s in part because there is a LOT going on here, keeping things interesting. And you’ll want to keep the pause button nearby, to catch the cameos and background designs. The movie, a zippy hour and seventeen minutes, begins when […]

Wonder Woman: Commemorative Edition and “What Makes a Wonder Woman”

I’ve now had a chance to watch the Wonder Woman: Commemorative Edition, which came out earlier this week. I remembered why I didn’t care for the movie, but I liked the new featurette, “What Makes a Wonder Woman”. It’s only ten minutes, compared to the 25 minutes each of the other two carry-over special features, but I’m not sure what more they could have said without going into tricky political topics that wouldn’t fit this promotional item. Commentators on-screen include […]

To Go With the Film, Wonder Woman Animated Movie Gets Re-Released

Instead of a new animated movie starring Wonder Woman, to tie into this summer’s live-action film, we’re getting a re-release of the 2009 cartoon origin story called the Wonder Woman Commemorative Edition. It’s already out on digital, and the Blu-ray combo pack (and plain DVD) drop on May 16, with a new cover to look more like the movie’s marketing material. I didn’t care much for the movie the first time around, mostly because I’ve seen umpteen versions of her […]

Teen Titans: The Judas Contract

The Judas Contract is one of the most famous DC superhero storylines ever, from a period when The Teen Titans was one of the most popular books coming out. It was highly ambitious, combining fighting a killer cult, with Brother Blood and his followers questions of trust, as a Titan betrays the team insinuations of sex between Nightwing and Starfire (one of the most shocking and memorable points, given the timeframe) the origin of Deathstroke, a mercenary villain out to […]

A New DC Super Hero Girls Movie Coming in May

I enjoyed watching the first DC Super Hero Girls original animated movie, Hero of the Year, so I’m glad to hear another one will be coming. This franchise, aimed at and starring young women, is a breath of fresh air, and I’m glad to see heroes like Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Supergirl, and many others working together in the “hero school” setting. That Super Hero High environment allows for a bunch of cameos and supporting characters, which are fun. Plus, DC […]

Justice League Dark

Justice League Dark has a promising concept but executes it half-heartedly, turning a visit to the magic-using side of the DCU into just another superhero-style battle. As the movie opens, people start seeing demons. Defending themselves, the humans attack, but the demons are really other people. It’s a truly horrific idea, with fear based on the concept of what we could find ourselves doing if seeing hallucinations. Unfortunately, after a suspenseful introduction that was my favorite part of the movie, […]
