Warner Bros. Animation has announced that the next DC Universe original animated DVD movie will be Green Lantern: First Flight, set for release on July 28. Like the others, it will be rated PG-13. It will be available as a two-disc DVD special edition (suggested retail price $29.98), a single disc DVD ($19.98), or on Blu-ray ($34.99). Disney Eliminates Standard DVD Review Copies for Pinocchio

Here’s another piece of evidence for studios trying to shove the Blu-ray format down the customer’s throat: I just got notified that, when it comes to review copies of the upcoming Disney release Pinocchio 70th Anniversary Platinum Edition, the company will ONLY provide the Blu-ray version. Disney is shipping a standard DVD copy of the movie with all of their Blu-rays these days. As their press materials put it, this “allow[s] viewers the opportunity to enjoy Pinocchio on a standard […]

Wonder Woman Sweepstakes; Nathan Fillion Interview

The Wonder Woman direct-to-video movie is due out March 3, so to promote it, there’s a new sweepstakes. Grand prize is being drawn into the Wonder Woman comic, plus the original art showing you. You could also win a PlayStation or a copy of the DVD. Warner Home Video has also released an interview with Nathan Fillion, the voice of Steve Trevor. He seems much more comfortable with the geek content and approach than some of the previous subjects. That’s […]

Catching Up on Leverage

The problem, for me, with good stuff is that I put it off until I have time to enjoy it. (Mediocre stuff, that’s easy to buzz through without having to pay full attention.) Soon, I’m several weeks/issues/episodes behind. On the plus side, that means I can give myself a mini-marathon. That’s how I found myself watching four episodes of Leverage and looking forward to more. The Stork Job A couple is trying to adopt a baby in Serbia, only to […]

The All-New Super Friends Hour: Season One, Volume 2

Review by KC Carlson I pretty much stand alone from my comic book peers in their love for Super Friends. Me, I don’t really get it. Perhaps it’s because I’m a few years older than most of my comic friends. When these episodes of The All-New Super Friends Hour first aired in 1977, I was a junior in college and had pretty much stopped watching all TV (except for SNL and SCTV) since 1975. I had wrapped up my Saturday […]

Wonder Woman Voice Actress Vicki Lewis

In the latest series of promotional interviews to promote the Wonder Woman animated movie due out March 3, Warner Home Video has distributed a Q&A with Vicki Lewis (NewsRadio). Surprisingly, at least to me, she plays Amazon Persephone, described as “one of the key characters in the Amazon’s battle with Ares.” Also surprising to me is that this is her second DCU appearance. She previously voiced Iris West, the Flash’s fiancee, in Justice League: The New Frontier. QUESTION: When you […]

Another Example of Pushing Customers to Blu-Ray: Bolt Release Staggered

I knew studios were pushing the Blu-ray format hard in their product announcements, but I was surprised to see them stacking the deck when it comes to release dates. Normally, DVDs are released for sale on Tuesdays. On March 24, Disney’s Bolt will be available in a one-disc edition at $30 or a two-disc version at $33. The second disc contains these extra features: “I Thought I Lost You” music video. The recording of the song. “First-time directors Chris Williams […]
