Comic-Con HQ Launches Free Beta, Will Stream Con Man

Comic-Con HQ, the on-demand subscription video service, is now in free beta mode for iOS and web users. (There’s still no word on monthly fees, though, which makes me leery when it comes to giving them any credit card information.) Their free period ends July 25, which is the day after this year’s San Diego Comic-Con ends. The first sweetener to encourage sign-ups is a chance to win a free trip to the con for you and three friends if […]

Next Superhero TV Show to Feature Interracial Romance

Variety has the story: Freeform (which used to be ABC Family, making it another Disney company) has ordered a TV series version of Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger concept and characters. Here’s the description: The live-action interracial romance follows the duo, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love — Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they […]

Could Young Justice Return?

We live in an era where no favorite pop culture show is dead forever. If you’re super-popular or beloved, like Star Trek, then they will keep creating spin-offs and sequels. If you’re a cult classic, then you pray to Netflix for a retry after being canceled, like Arrested Development or Gilmore Girls. However, the problem is usually casting. Have your actors aged too much? Will they agree to return, and can you come to a deal with them? When it […]

iZombie Takes on the Superhero

I really like watching iZombie. The TV show combines an ongoing story (how does Liv learn to handle her transformed existence, now that she’s been infected, and should she tell her family and friends, some of whom are involved with those who want to exploit the condition for their own power?) with a weekly murder case, which Liv helps solve by eating the victim’s brains. That action gives her flashes of their memories — and Rose McIver, who plays Liv, […]

ABC Cancels First Show of Season; Why Did It Take So Long?

Two weeks ago, news broke that ABC canceled Wicked City after three episodes of the 1980s-set show about a pair of serial killers. In it, Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl) and Erika Christensen murder while LAPD detectives (Jeremy Sisto and Gabriel Luna) hunt them down. The premise and period setting sounded intriguing, but reviews were bad. And ratings were worse, setting what “is believed to be a Big 4 low for a scripted original.” (They shouldn’t have canceled Forever, which wasn’t […]

Time-Traveling Superheroes Are Cool!

We now have a longer trailer for Legends of Tomorrow, the DC superhero show teaming up the Atom, White Canary, Firestorm, Captain Cold and Heat Wave, and Hawkgirl and Hawkman. It debuts January 21, and the team is going to time travel! The villain is Vandal Savage, which explains the need for battles in different eras. Shown here is 1975, with period costumes, as well as an older time. This aspect is new and different, and more important to me, […]
