Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season One Due on DVD in September

It’s a shame that they couldn’t get the timing better coordinated with the upcoming S.H.I.E.L.D. comic, but the first season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be available on DVD and Blu-ray on September 9, just in time for the fall TV season. In addition to the 22 episodes, there are several bonus features included: Audio commentaries with filmmakers and cast The “Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe” TV Special “Journey Into S.D.C.C.”, described as a way to “share the thrill of […]

IDW Wants to Make a Dirk Gently TV Show… And Oh, Yeah, a Comic

IDW, which I think of as a comic publisher, has a film and TV development arm called IDW Entertainment that launched in November 2013. Today, they announced an option in connection with Ideate Media (established in April 2013 by the strategic investment arm of the Government of Malaysia which “develops and seeks out stories, talent and properties suitable to engage global audiences, especially, though not exclusively, stories with Asian elements, settings, and themes”) to turn Douglas Adams’ Dirk Gently’s Holistic […]

DC Releases Gotham Promo Clips

Gotham, the new DC TV series debuting on Fox on September 22, is a dark take on Batman’s supporting cast, focusing on the city and the origins of some of his best-known villains. We won’t see the hero himself, since Bruce Wayne at this point is a little kid; instead, young detective James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) in a corrupt setting is our focus. To explain the concept, DC has released this three-minute promotional video first look: “This is not a […]

Flash Trailer Emphasizes Arrow Connections, Character Differences

The first look trailer for the upcoming Flash TV series, starring Grant Gustin, does a great job of hitting three key points: That the show is a spin-off of the popular Arrow, with a prominent role in the ad for star Stephen Amell; that the Flash has superspeed, and it doesn’t look too cheesy on film; and that the characters have a welcome difference in temperament. See for yourself: The five-minute extended trailer gives the Flash more backstory (and a […]

Dreams Come True! WKRP Complete Series Coming

When I wrote about the complete Hill Street Blues DVD set that came out at the end of last month, I mentioned that I really hoped that Shout! Factory would do a similar set for WKRP in Cincinnati. Ha! I called it! TV Shows on DVD (link no longer available) is reporting that Shout! has “licensed the show’s home video rights and are planning to deliver all four seasons of the sitcom together in one package”. Since the sitcom was […]

Good Week for Comic-Inspired TV News: Agent Carter, Gotham, Constantine, More

If you like watching comic-inspired series on TV, you’ve got a lot of shows coming up. According to ICv2, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been renewed for a second season. Although ABC/Disney demonstrated faith in it early on, giving the show an early full-season pickup, the storytelling and ratings have both been disappointing. With the recent tie-in to new blockbuster Captain America: The Winter Soldier, though, the show seems to have gained new energy and tighter execution. ABC will also have […]
