Lost: The Complete Collection Due August 24

I have a confession to make: the major reason KC wanted our new Blu-ray player for his birthday was because he enjoys watching Lost, and he’s already anticipating Lost: The Complete Collection, out next month on August 24. The big appeal for fans like him is that the set contains additional story material, which will make this a must-have for any dedicated viewer. If you’re not a Blu-ray fan, the set is also available on DVD. Here’s the official content […]

Ghost Whisperer Features Graphic Novelist

Set the TiVo! On Friday, April 2, at 8 PM Eastern time, the CBS show Ghost Whisperer will feature a story about a graphic novelist. The plot is described as “A graphic novelist’s livelihood — and life — are threatened when a vengeful ghost takes over his pen, using it to predict violent events that start to come true.” (Too bad we couldn’t get a female artist, hunh?) There’s a short video promo on YouTube. In the episode, a successful […]

Proof That Superheroes Are Mainstream

I was watching Secret Diary of a Call Girl, starring Billie Piper (the first new Doctor’s main squeeze) as Belle, a high-priced London hooker and now writer. The most recent episode, the fifth of season three, had an interesting exchange between Bambi, another call girl Belle has been mentoring, and her new flame, Byron. Byron, a spoiled rich boy, first hired Bambi two weeks ago, and now the two are getting married. Belle doesn’t believe prostitutes can have boyfriends, so […]

Human Target Debuts Tomorrow

I’m looking forward to seeing the debut of the Human Target TV series tomorrow night on FOX (before it moves into its Wednesday timeslot starting January 20). It’s loosely based on the DC Comics character, starring Mark Valley (Boston Legal, Swingtown, Fringe) as bodyguard-for-hire Christopher Chance. I say “loosely based” because the main gimmick of the comic — that Chance was a genius impersonator, so he could take the place of the targets he was protecting without anyone knowing (thus […]

Naoki Urasawa’s Monster Anime Coming to Syfy

One of the best manga of 2008, Naoki Urasawa’s Monster, will debut in animated form on Syfy on October 12. The former Sci-Fi Network is running “Ani-Monday”, an anime programming block. After airing on Mondays on Syfy, the episodes will re-run on Chiller (a channel focused on horror and suspense) in the following week. The cartoon series is rated TV-MA and is promised to “remain true to the original story.” Neurosurgeon Dr. Tenma saved a child who then turned out […]

Spectacular Spider-Man Cartoon Starts Second Season

I didn’t realize Spidey has a new cartoon series running on Disney XD. The second season premieres on Monday, June 22, at 7 PM with two episodes. After that, episodes run at 7:30 on Mondays. It’s set in high school, where the character works particularly well. Here are the show descriptions: In the season premiere, “Blueprints”, Peter wants to talk to Gwen about their first kiss, but before he gets the chance, Spider-Man has a run-in with the sorcerer Mysterio. […]

Leverage: The Miracle Job

Tonight, TNT airs the Leverage episode “The Miracle Job” at 10 PM Eastern. It’s not a Christmas episode as such — too early in the show’s run for that, although I’d love to see one — but it does deal with a case involving a church, St. Nicholas, and redemption. D.B. Sweeney plays a priest, an old friend of Nate’s (Timothy Hutton) whose sanctuary is about to be demolished by a developer building a mall. The team decides to try […]
