Batman: Complete Animated Series Comes to Blu-ray With Digital Copy

Ten years ago, one of the world’s favorite superhero cartoons made it to home video in a deluxe package. Batman: The Complete Animated Series was a 17-DVD set put out in 2008 to allow fans to rewatch the astounding, deco-influenced animation and the milestone-setting voice acting. Now, to keep up with changing tech, there’s a new Batman: The Complete Animated Series. The Limited Deluxe Edition will consist of the 109 episodes, originally aired from 1992-1995, remastered, on 10 Blu-ray discs. […]

The Sabrina Teaser Is Certainly Creepy!

Netflix will release The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, starring Kiernan Shipka, on October 26, just in time for Halloween. Originally planned to run on the CW as a Riverdale spin-off, the show, written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, moved to Netflix for a planned two seasons of ten episodes each. Probably a good thing, since I don’t see all of this witchiness and demon worship (see trailer below) playing on a network. Boy, Shipka looks good in the role, though!

AT&T Buys Crunchyroll Owner

AT&T, who recently took over Time Warner, has now acquired Otter Media, the parent company of Crunchyroll. John Stankey, chief executive of WarnerMedia, as Time Warner has been renamed, will oversee Otter. Mr. Stankey said in a statement that AT&T planned to “harness Otter’s expertise” to strengthen its own digital assets. He did not say which ones, but Warner Bros. owns niche video companies like Machinima, which focuses on gamers, and Boomerang. And DC Universe. In addition to Crunchyroll, Otter […]

Marvel Rising Trailer Does Something Different for Animation

Disney has released a Marvel Rising trailer. This is for Marvel Rising: Initiation, a precursor to the Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors movie due later this year. Marvel Rising: Initiation is a series of six four-minute episodes written by Mairghread Scott, debuting August 13 on Disney XD. It’s about Ghost-Spider (formerly Spider-Gwen, voiced by Dove Cameron) going on the run after being framed for murder. A team of Squirrel Girl (Milana Vayntrub), Ms. Marvel (Kathreen Khavari), Quake (Chloe Bennet from Agents […]

Lucifer Survives to a Fourth Season!

Lucifer, one of my favorite guilty pleasure watches, was the last DC comic-sourced TV show to get renewed this year. Everything else received the good news in May, but Lucifer‘s third season (DVD out August 28) was its last on Fox, so fans were reduced to a #SaveLucifer campaign and hope. It worked! With, as suits a show starring the devil, a catch. It’s no longer on a network — you’ll have to subscribe to Netflix to see the ten […]

Freedom Fighters: The Ray Comes to DVD With “First Openly Gay Superhero Movie Headliner”

Freedom Fighters: The Ray was a short cartoon that ran on the CW Seed as a tie-in to last year’s CW superhero TV show crossover, “Crisis on Earth-X”. It was only six episodes, a bit over half an hour of material, exploring his origin and background and setting up the Ray as the CW’s first gay superhero. Now that material will be expanded into a 72-minute release available on Blu-ray (with DVD and digital included, suggested price of $19.98) or […]

More Warner TV DVD Sets Announced

To go along with last month’s announcement of four superhero DVD collections, Warner has also announced these two season sets: Lucifer: The Complete Third Season will be out August 28 at a suggested price of $39.99 for the mass-market DVD edition. The Blu-ray will be available through Warner Archive. And unless something happens (fingers crossed!), this will be the final season, with the cliffhanger ending and two additional bonus episodes included, for a total of 26 on the set. Here’s […]

Resident Alien May Become a TV Series

What great news! I’d watch a Resident Alien TV show. The comic series by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse is on its fifth miniseries with An Alien in New York, and over the run, the flexibility of the concept has been amply demonstrated. I can see it as a procedural, with a case of the week while the bigger storyline, about an alien’s impressions of humanity and his need to stay hidden, continues in the background. In the comic, Dr. […]
