The Name of the Flower Volume 1

I love the word “aphasia”. I don’t know why I always remember the complicated term for forgetting words, but the irony amuses me. So when I saw the online preview for The Name of the Flower by Ken Saito, which prominently uses the term, I had to check it out. High school student Chouko has been orphaned. With no one to take care of her, she winds up staying with a remote cousin of her father’s. (There are a few […]

Blue Monday: Thieves Like Us #1

It’s been four years since the last Blue Monday story by Chynna Clugston, and I’ve missed these weird, wacky, wonderful teens. When the gang goes to the zoo, Bleu is distracted by all the animals having sex. It’s almost spring, you see, but she’s also got sex on the brain because of her crush on Mr. Bishop. She’s hatched a plan to lose her virginity so he’ll be more interested in the “experienced” her, although she’s still creeped out by […]

Luv Luv: Make More Love & Peace, Sounds of Love, Object of Desire

Finishing up my coverage of the Aurora Luv Luv titles … these are the three titles I haven’t yet covered from line of explicit sex manga for women. Make More Love & Peace by Takane Yonetani A sequel to Make Love & Peace, about the girlfriend of a cop. These two publications join Comic Foundry (closed by choice after issue #5) and Write […]

Lots of preconceptions are corrected, starting with the idea that sake can’t be as good as the best French wines. An argument is made that if well-made sake with no additives is handled as well as wine, kept from […]

PR: What Not to Do: Insulting Those You Want to Help You

Note to aspiring web writers: if you want me to mention your website, especially with a link, then don’t be an ass. I got a press release from someone who will go unnamed who thought the following approaches were the right way to go: 1. Making outrageous claims. We’re “one of the only, if not the only, dedicated graphic novel review websites.” 2. Asking you to take too much on faith. The reviewer is anonymous, although claiming to be a […]
