Smut Peddler Returns! Submissions Are Open

Smut Peddler, an anthology minicomic series dedicated to erotica (which means porn that isn’t mean or degrading), is returning!

The last issue, #3, came out in 2005. As before, I’m part of the editorial group putting this together. This time around, we’re aiming for 150-200 pages, black-and-white, with a spine.

Spear-headed this time around by Spike (Templar, Arizona), there’s already a submission page. Here are the key points:

* The work must be sex-positive. The point of Smut Peddler is to have fun, not to work through your guilt over whatever.

* Also, new this time: every submission must have female participation. If you’re a male artist or writer who wants to apply to contribute, pair up with a woman. There’s a thread to assist in this effort.

* Activities shown must be legal. We don’t want to get anyone — creator, retailer, me — in trouble.

To apply, submit via email to Spike, a premise, estimation of length, and a sample of art and/or writing previously produced by the creators. She, Trisha Lynn, and I will be evaluating work based on quality, originality, and suitability for the premise. There are already a number of great contributors signed up — check the information page for details. For more specifics, there’s also an FAQ.

Those selected to contribute will be paid $50 a page plus get comp copies. Proposals are due by end of June 2011. The project will be appearing in 2012, since contributors have until the end of 2011 to finish their work. (We don’t want anyone rushing anything because they ran out of time!)

Sad that there’s no room for homosexual art of a male-to-male nature.

  3. Kevin Lighton Says:

Christian, I think you’re misinterpreting something there. The ‘female participation’ rule is for the creative team, not the characters in the story.

  4. Johanna Says:

That’s correct. We’re encouraging art created by women.

  5. Christian Says:

Sorry for the misundertanding. As it’s just me and I’m not a woman, I’ll let this one pass. I’ll send it to a friend of mine…

  6. Trisha Lynn Says:

@Christian: As I’m a female writer who wants to submit a story but can’t draw, I’d love to be able to work with you if you’re an artist.

  7. Christian Says:

Trisha – let’s see if we can’t work something out. I mostly do male-on-male work, never done hetero stuff…

If you want to contact me, let me know and I’ll send you to a place you can do that!
