Batman: Assault on Arkham Next DCU Animated Movie — Trailer, Orders Now Available

Based on the “world of Arkham Asylum” [the video game], the next original DCU animated movie will be Batman: Assault on Arkham. DC Entertainment has posted the following trailer to YouTube. It’s also available on Son of Batman, out next Tuesday. Harley Quinn (Hynden Walch) features prominently, of course, as do Deadshot (Neal McDonough), the Joker (Troy Baker) with a bomb, and someone who looks like Woody Allen (appearing at 0:49). Maybe that’s the Riddler (Matthew Gray Gubler). Kevin Conroy […]

Complete Hill Street Blues Now Available on DVD

It’s one of the most important TV shows of the modern era, and now the complete Hill Street Blues series is available on DVD from Shout! Factory. Shout! does really nice, fan-conscious packages. The show ran from 1981-1987, 144 episodes, contained here on 34 discs. There are extras, including a documentary and interviews and a handful of commentaries. The show was revolutionary, not just for bringing more realism to the cop show genre, but for its use of movie-style techniques, […]

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Want to Ride Captain America Movie’s Coattails

It’s no surprise that Captain America: The Winter Soldier had a dynamite opening weekend, setting a new box office record for April with a $96+ million take. Internationally, it’s also doing well, taking in more already than the first Captain America made overseas in total. The sequel is expected to far surpass the original overall. Thus, it’s also no surprise that the struggling Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is doing its best to grab some of that success and interest. Marvel sent […]

Scooby-Doo! Wrestlemania Mystery

Out this week was a new animated movie starring Scooby-Doo, his friends, and a whole bunch of WWE wrestlers: John Cena, Kane, The Miz (who, poor guy, just gets beat up on), Sin Cara, Brodus Clay, Triple H, AJ Lee, Mr. McMahon, and other cameos. The movie comes in a combo pack with Blu-ray, DVD, and UltraViolet copy, as shown here, or single-disc DVD. Scooby-Doo! Wrestlemania Mystery runs about an hour and a half. It starts when Shaggy and Scooby […]

X-Men: Days of Future Past Trailer

I like the mutant movies — yes, even X-Men 3 — but this X-Men: Days of Future Past trailer looks awfully dark and grim. 70s costumes rock, though. I guess, since Bryan Singer, director of the first two X-Men films, is back, I should have more faith and hope. It’s certainly got an amazingly full cast. Most surprising to me: I realized that Marvel has *4* movies coming out this summer — Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the […]

Muppets Most Wanted

I found Muppets Most Wanted only mildly disappointing because I didn’t have very high expectations for it in the first place. There are spoilers below. I don’t regret going — KC and I laughed a bit, and it’s always good to see the beloved characters again. But perhaps my biggest let-down was that the puppetry isn’t as good as it used to be. When I first saw The Muppet Movie, there was such wonder in how transparently these bits of […]

Archie Movie Confirmed on Hold

ICv2 ran an interview with Jon Goldwater, Publisher and Co-CEO of Archie Comics, yesterday. As one would expect, it’s mostly generic puffery: Archie’s “still the #1 mass market comic book in the world”. Archie’s decades of history make it a well-known property. People are looking for quality entertainment. Archie’s broad-based, suitable for everyone. I found Goldwater’s mantra, “Archie is open for business”, interesting. He uses it to mean that he’ll consider new artists, new talent, new styles, and new approaches, […]
