Josie and the Pussycats Relaunch Series Announced

To go along with new #1s and storylines for Archie and Jughead (and soon, Betty & Veronica), Archie Comics has announced an all-new Josie and the Pussycats series, launching September 28. The comic will be set in “the New Riverdale”, along with the other series mentioned above.

Co-written by Marguerite Bennett (DC Comics Bombshells, Insexts) and Cameron DeOrdio (with a journalism and PR background, I couldn’t find a comic credit for him), the art by Audrey Mok, as seen in this cover, should update the classic look with a current feel.

I want to see how she draws Alexandra Cabot, the jealous antagonist, and if she keeps the cool skunk stripe in her hair. We already know there’s one change — Alexandra is now the band’s manager’s daughter, not his twin sister, since teenage businessmen aren’t so common in comics these days — and I’m guessing that we aren’t going to see the spell-casting cat any time soon.

Of course, since this is the new Archie, there are variant covers. Two have been released so far.

A september launch puts the new comic right around the time of the upcoming Riverdale TV show, which will feature live-action versions of the band members.
