Ready for Riverdale, the Darker Archie TV Show?

Riverdale, the live-action TV show based on Archie Comics first announced in summer 2015, now has an official release date: Thursday, January 26, 2017. The show’s time slot will be Thursdays at 9 PM ET on the CW. According to the press release, the show “has been described as a subversive take on the classic Archie mythos.”
I don’t know that that’s what I think Archie needs, but I know a lot of TV and movie adaptations of comics recently have succeeded by streamlining and modernizing properties, removing a lot of the barnacle-grown continuity that makes it confusing to new viewers. So I’ll at least sample it.
The lead-in for Riverdale is Supernatural, playing off of “the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome facade.”

I’m curious about it, from descriptions I’ve read it sounds somewhere between Dawson’s Creek and Gossip Girl so I guess we’ll see. (I wonder if they will allow Jughead to be asexual?)

I hadn’t heard the comparison to Gossip Girl – that intrigues me. But the comparison to Dawson’s Creek (which I’ve heard come up mostly in the context of a student fooling around with a teacher) just makes me think 1) I’ve seen this before or 2) I’m too old for this now.

I get the feeling that I am too old and my kids are too young for it. Which is a shame, because I would have liked to seen this with them. Just like we read the Waid (and others) Archie series. Or how we currently enjoy Flash and Supergirl. Ah well.
